Community legends earn awards at Celebration of Volunteers event
Redland City Bulletin (25/05/2021)
The Redlands community came together to thank the local volunteers, in what was possibly the biggest celebration of the spirit of volunteering in Redlands.
On Saturday 22 May, the Celebration of Volunteers event was hosted by STAR Community Services and Volunteering Redlands as a part of the National Volunteers Week (17-23 May 2021). The gala event was supported by the Redland City Council.
With the stunning backdrop of Raby Bay Harbour, the Celebration of Volunteers brought together an impressive array of live performances, a range of family friendly activities culminating into a breathtaking laser display!
The event opened with a Welcome to Country followed by a note from Redland City Mayor Cr Karen Williams. Patsy Wilshire, STAR General Manager and CEO of Volunteering Qld, Mara Basanovic awarded the Volunteer of the Year awards to Richard Rogers of Redland City Lions, Graham Williams of Sailability, Ross Nicholof Mission to Seafarers and Jasmine Vesters of Love and Hope Redlands.
Visitors were impressed and thoroughly entertained by the Cleveland State School Primary Choir, Redland City Ukuleles and Rockit Productions. As the vintage tunes of Melly and the Madmen got the crowds moving, the younger ones flocked to kids rides and the ice cream truck. There was something for everyone with plenty of hot food options, drinks, Chess challenge, face painting, raffles and much more!
As the sun went down, a dazzling laser display by Mr Fireworks delivered an unforgettable experience for captivated crowd, crowning off a celebration of the true heroes of our community.
