STAR Home Care Package Supporting Independent living

"It's hard to meet new people as we get older."  Ninety-one-year-old Yvonne Garner is overcoming the challenge of social isolation often faced by seniors - thanks to her Home Care Package.

"Over time I have lost some of my hearing and my eyesight. Mt memory is getting weaker too,” said Yvonne. “I've always been keen to live independently."

Yvonne first heard about Home Care Packages through a STAR Community Services volunteer. " I rang STAR. They explained it to me very clearly. "

The Australian Government’s Home Care Package Program aims to support Seniors to stay independently and comfortably in their own homes for longer. Eligible candidates can access personal care, support services, nursing, allied health and clinical services. As an approved Aged Care provider, STAR Community Services work with each of their clients to select services that best meet each individual’s care needs and goals.

“We are pleased to support Yvonne in managing her Home Care Package,” said STAR Care Coordinator Tracy Laurie. “ Accompanied shopping, support with house chores, help with reading mail and other daily activities can make a huge difference to the lives of the elderly.”

“I’ve had knee injuries. I started swimming to keep the strength up. Thanks to my STAR Home Care Package a carer accompanies me to the pool for my exercises." Yvonne's Home Care Package also supports her in maintenance and repairs in her unit.
