Sailing, Kayaking and on shore volunteers needed

SAILS at Bayside  (Anglican Sailing Adventures In Life Skills) is a community outreach service of several Anglican Parishes in the southern Moreton Bay Area.

SAILS provides public and private sailing and kayaking activities. Their goal is to provide opportunities for at risk youth, young people and young families to engage in water and social activities in a supportive, fun and safe environment.

SALIS is looking for volunteers who have a friendly disposition, good communication skills and can get along with people of all backgrounds and ages.

There are a number of activities that volunteers can get involved with (depending on skills/experience and qualifications as outlined below) including:

On water activities:

  • assist with running of sailing and/or kayaking activities:
    • supervising kayaking
      • PA Paddling Supervisor qualification (Kayak or SOT)
    • operating a powerboat
    • sailing small boats
    • skippering catamarans
      • Recreational Marine Driver Licence is required for the above boating activities.

On shore activities:

  • admin
  • cash handling
  • boat maintenance & cleaning
  • first aid/CPR - current certification required
  • marine radio operation (Marine Radio Operator [SROCP] qualification)

Training and support is available for all roles. However, prior experience is preferred for on water activities.

Volunteers can help out as much or as little as you like. SAILS are flexible, but generally allow for 6-8 hours a day for activities. Volunteers can also take on one or more of the above activities, depending on your interest and skillset.

Successful applicants will also need to be over 18 and have a current Blue Card (SAILS will help volunteers to obtain a Blue Card).
