Join our team as a Transport Scheduler and Communications Officer today.

As a Transport Scheduler & Communications Officer, you will manage STAR’s scheduling and radio communications operations. This is a rotational role, alternating between:

  • Two weeks on radio communications
  • Two weeks scheduling for Redlands
  • Two weeks scheduling for Gold Coast, Ipswich, and Darling Downs

Additionally, you will participate in an on-call rotation (one fortnight every six weeks). Your confident, friendly, and mature approach, combined with excellent problem-solving skills and cultural awareness, will reflect STAR’s values of respect, dignity, and empowerment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rotate between scheduling and radio operations, ensuring continuity in daily transport services
  • Manage and communicate daily schedule changes, cancellations, and emergency add-ins to drivers
  • Maintain, update, and finalise vehicle runs and manifests (up to 3 days in advance)
  • Manage driver and vehicle availability with the Head Scheduler
  • Be on call every 6 weeks for the fortnight, addressing urgent service needs
  • Monitor and act on NUNA schedule changes and check daily online bookings
  • Report and manage field incidents and accidents, following correct procedures
  • Run and review daily reports to verify driver hours and manage casual/overtime approvals
  • Ensure manifests are efficient, accurate, and meet budget/award compliance
  • Recommend changes to Routematch parameters and suggest process improvements
  • Maintain strong communication with internal teams, clients and stakeholders

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Entry-level diploma or relevant certificate, OR equivalent industry experience
  • Experience in radio communications and/or transport scheduling
  • Strong IT and intermediate computer skills
  • High-level organisational and time management capabilities
  • Clear written and verbal communication, especially with diverse and vulnerable groups
  • Able to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Calm under pressure, with proven ability to prioritise and multi-task
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement

Desirable Criteria

  • Familiarity with Routematch
  • Working knowledge of transport logistics in Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast, and Darling Downs
  • Understanding of the needs of people with disabilities, older adults, and carers
