STAR is committed to ensuring that our elderly population receives the care and support they deserve. Through the STAR Connection Fund, we provide vital assistance to seniors, ensuring they have access to transportation to medical appointments and other essential services.
Help Seniors Stay Connected
Sarah* worked hard all her life. She wasn’t extravagant, carefully managing her finances and building a life she was proud of. Today, like many older Australians, she is living on a pension and facing impossible choices between rent, food, medication and staying connected with friends.
Sarah has outlived her family. Once surrounded by friends and loved ones, she was known for her warmth and sense of humour. Then, quietly, she stopped attending social gatherings. Not because she didn’t want to go, but because she could no longer afford to. Rather than tell anyone she was struggling, Sarah stayed home alone, determined to preserve her dignity.
When Sarah spoke with her STAR Community Services Care Partner, she shared that she felt sad, isolated and increasingly disconnected from the world around her.
Through the Connection Fund, STAR was able to help Sarah reconnect with her friends and community. A simple act of support restored more than a social outing, it restored hope, confidence and a sense of belonging.
Sadly, Sarah’s story is not unique. Many seniors are experiencing loneliness and isolation because they simply cannot afford to stay connected.
