Brisbane Broncos Charity Partnership

People aged over 70 are the loneliest people in Australia. Thanks to the Brisbane Broncos Charity Partner Program, STAR is able to launch a unique program which aims to reduce the growing problem of social isolation amongst the elderly.

STAR’s 'Bridge Across the Generations' project will connect 10 young aged care students with 20 elderly residents in their local area. Over a period of six months the students will engage in quality conversations and encourage the elderly to share their unique stories including their personal history, experiences and perspectives. These stories will then be immortalised in a book – to be enjoyed by the wider community for many years to come.

On Saturday 30 July 2022, STAR Volunteers sold 50-50 Raffle Tickets to the audience at the Broncos vs Wests Tigers at Suncorp Stadium to raise funds for the project. Huge thanks to Brisbane Broncos!

STAR Community Services work tirelessly to breakdown the many barriers to social and community inclusion, which is why they have been proudly recognised as a leading client-focused charity for over 25 years.

The Special Transport Assistance Redlands Association Incorporated, more commonly known as STAR Community Services, was established after the then Redlands Shire Council recognised that a large percentage of older people and people with disabilities did not have accessible or affordable transport services.

Part of our Brisbane Broncos Charity Partner Program, STAR started from humble beginnings of only 10 drivers and three office staff, STAR now have a fleet of over 70 vehicles serviced by nearly 200 volunteers who support those with limited private transport options.

STAR has provided more than 1.4 million trips to help community members enjoy an independent life, and STAR’s Development Coordinator Catherine Williams said the charity’s services aren’t limited to just transport.

“At STAR Community Services we offer several services to our community, including Home Care Packages, Social Programs, Disability Support and Aged Care Services,” she said.

“STAR’s staff and volunteers genuinely care about the wellbeing of each individual client, and I feel so lucky to be a part of it.”
