Celebration of Volunteers: Redland’s Outstanding Volunteers

This past year has proven that volunteers play a vital role in our community. Volunteers are the backbone of nonprofit organisation. Most could not give the outstanding service they offer without the dedication of volunteers. For over 100 years volunteers have supported bake sales, sporting events, cared for vulnerable people, kept animals and the environment safe and so much more, proving that we couldn’t grow our community without them.  The ‘Celebration of Volunteers’ puts a focus on the giving spirit and culture of the Redlands community.

STAR Community Services is holding this event with an aim to celebrate the contribution of volunteers and build awareness of the inclusivity and diversity of volunteering available in the Redlands Coast. STAR Community Services General Manager, Patsy Wilshire said, “Volunteers are our community’s true heroes. In the Redlands, the spirit of volunteering is deep-rooted in all aspects of our daily life.”

As part of National Volunteer Week, 4 Awards for ‘Volunteer of the Year’ will be awarded, this is sponsored by Bendigo Bank Victoria Point. This event could not happen without the support from Redland City Council, Alex Gow Funerals, McCarthy Durie Lawyers, Bendigo Bank Victoria Point and SS Signs. They have all shown their true community spirit.

Celebration of Volunteers will showcase to the community the amazing community organisations we have in the Redlands. So far, Abundance College, Brisbane Bayside Crime Stoppers, U3A Redlands District, Redlands Museum, Story Dogs, Rotary Club of Cleveland, Girl Guides, SES Cleveland, Mission to Seafarers, Redfest, Redlands View Club, Sailability, Redland City Lions, RDCOTA, Love and Hope Redlands, Yurara Art Society Redland City Council, Soroptimist International Bayside, Redlands Coast Salad Bowl Gardens, The Cage Foundation, Celebrate Learning and Volunteering Redlands will all be attending. Participating organisations are showcasing their products and vital services, with a number raising vital funds by selling food, drinks and a variety of items.

Entry and entertainment at this community event is free. Everyone is welcome. This celebration aims to bring all ages and cultures together with live entertainment, rides and activities. The Music covers 1920s to the ‘60s, local groups & bands and Children's choir.  This celebration demonstrates to the Redland community how important volunteers are in sustaining a strong Redland community.
